Carlie Armstrong ....

Monday, June 20

I've always enjoyed seeing how things are made. One of the perks of being a reporter back in the day was working on behind-the-scene-type stories. I totally loved it! To go to a private workspace and watch someone work or create was a total honor. That's why I really love looking through Carlie Armstrong's photos. The Portland-based photographer started work.place, a film-based documentary to introduce people to artists, musicians, designers and craftspeople and then chronicle their creative processes. So far, she's featured 29 individuals for her project. Check out the two businesses below.

Britt Howard owns the Portland Garment Factory. The warehouse, located in Portland's Montavilla neighborhood, is Britt's homebase for pattern drafting, size grading, design consultation, sample construction, line production, and garment manufacturing. It serves designers such as Holly Stalder, Dawn Sharp and Emily Ryan, and companies across the country.

Katy Meegan and Keegan Wenkman are the duo behind Keegan Meegan Press and Bindery located on Portland's Southeast Waterfront. The printmakers work with antique presses and create beautiful hand-illustrated letterpress. Katy and Keegan are currently raising money to preserve a historic 1950s Chandler and Price press. 1. Lovely photos! This post makes me want to put on an apron and get working, with a warm latte at my side.
