Recently, I happily accepted an invitation to tour Amsterdam Modern. I didn't know what to expect, so when I first entered the 5,000-square-foot warehouse, I faced a veritable treasure trove of mid-century modern pieces - many of them created by Friso Kramer and Willem Hendrik Gispen, renowned Dutch designers. I was excited and overwhelmed at the same time, but forced myself to focus when I met Ellen Le Comte. She is the owner of Amsterdam Modern and only buys furniture, lighting and other household goods from around Holland. Her requirements? Each item must be unusual, rare and beautifully designed. She has exceptional taste.
